Life Happens

I realize that it has been forever since I've posted a blog. There have been so many things going on in the last couple of months. I actually don't know where to start! Instead of going back that far, I'm going to fill you in on the most recent happenings around here.

Just to get the baby question out of the way, no, we haven't been placed yet. Lance and I did, however, renew our CPR certification two weeks ago, so I will be sending our new cards to Susan shortly. I wanted to make sure that nothing stood in the way of us being placed when we get the call. It has definitely been a long wait but it will be well worth it when she arrives.

Last Tuesday evening, my Uncle Chuck passed away at the hospital near my house. He had been there for 12 straight days when he passed. We had a feeling when he was admitted that he probably wouldn't be coming out. After being examined by the doctors when he was admitted, it was found that his liver was almost 10 times the size of normal, he had cirosis of the liver and possibly cancer there and that his kidneys were failing. All this made for a slow and gradual passing last week. As most people know, I was not very close to uncle at all. Even though he lived next door to my parents, his alcoholism kept me from wanting a relationship with him. That said, his death made for an interesting time for me. I wish that I could have known that guy that my mom and aunt loved being around as a child. I wish I could have had a relationship with him. I wish that things were different. It was hard to see him suffer so much during his last days. I was at the hospital with my family for all but maybe 2 of the days he was there. I think that we're all relieved that it is over, just for the fact that he is no longer suffering or in pain. It is too bad that it took his death for him to know any kind of peace.

My parents have both had their share of doctors lately, too. My mom went to the ER on September 18 because of severe chest pains. They diagnosed her as having Pleurisy (an inflammation of the tissue surrounding the lung) after doing some tests to rule out pneumonia, heart attack, etc. They gave her an antibiotic and sent her home a few hours later. Luckily, she hasn't had any complications since her trip to the hospital, so we are all very relieved. Last week, she went to the doctor because she wasn't feeling well and they told her she has bronchitis. Last time I talked to her, she was feeling a bit better. My dad went to see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist last week because of his dizzy/neasous spells. They diagnosed him as having Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. They gave him some reading materials on it and it fits him and his symptoms to a tee. He will go in to see the doctor in another 2-3 weeks to see how he is doing and to talk about possibly doing an MRI to see if a tumor or stroke is possible, although the doctor finds in pretty unlikely. My dad had a stress test, blood tests and a check of his carotid earlier in the year and everything checked out great. After talking to him two days ago, he is doing well and is not dizzy anymore. I'm very happy to report that everything seems to be on the mend!

The weather has definitely turned here in the last week or so. Yesterday, it rained almost nonstop. Today looks a bit sunnier and is supposed to be a bit warmer at around 70 degrees. I absolutely love this time of year. I'm not a hot weather person at all. I love a small chill in the air. It reminds me that Christmas is almost here.

Lance and I are off to visit his family up in Davis for lunch today. His mom is staying up there for the week before heading back down to Livermore. It will be nice to spend some time with everyone.

Anyway....now that the dust is settling around here...I should be back to blogging on a more regular basis. Happy weekend!
