Today officially marked the beginning of my 9th school year working in Special Education. I can still remember the first year like it was yesterday. I was nervous, anxious, excited...all the things you're supposed to feel on your first day. Today was what we called Institute Day. It means that the entire staff gets together for meetings and workshops that last the entire day. I didn't sleep well last night. This happens to me the night before each school year. It is basically the same feeling that I had on my very first day.
While everyone else got to pick what workshops they wanted to attend today, I had to go to an all day training session with everyone else in my job classification. Our training consisted of learning techniques that they want you to use as an alternative to restraining. None of my current students have behaviors that would need restraining, but it is good for us to go through it. Some people were complaining about how "boring" the training was. I'm just happy that we actually got training.
With the start of the new school year comes a few VERY hectic, crazy, busy months. As if work doesn't keep me busy enough, I decided to sign up for 2 full term classes at the adult ed (Spanish and Excel), 1 short term class at the adult ed (Egyptology) and 8 (yes, I said 8!) classes through the county as a part of their Continuing Education Program. Luckily, the classes that I'm taking through the county are only one day classes, so they shouldn't be too bad. My calendar looks absolutely ridiculous between now and December 11. Wish me luck!
Now, I'm going to go get myself some dinner and zone out. My brain is mush!

Much luck to you !
Thanks! I might be taking on a second job, also. Maybe...we'll see.
I'm gonna need some luck, at least for the next few months!
